Volunteer Opportunities

  • The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) has asked Pollara to conduct a survey on its behalf with both active and retired teachers; the survey process will commence shortly.  Members who wish to verify the legitimacy of any request to participate in this survey may contact  the District President or RTO/ERO directly at 1-800-361-9888 and ask for Simon Lebovitz Extension 241. 

  • We are looking for individuals to help us host and welcome visitors at the Seniors Gathering Place at the Market.
    Tuesdays 9-Noon for one Tuesday per month.

  • The Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging is currently recruiting participants for a research study looking at the effects of resistance exercise on cardiovascular health and fitness.
    We are looking for healthy older males (ages 60-85) who are non-smokers; have no cardiovascular, respiratory or metabolic conditions; and who are not taking prescribed medications that interfere with the cardiovascular response to exercise.
    The study involves 8 visits to a lab on the UWO campus and all physiological measures are non-invasive.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DISTRICT EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING 2012 06 16

  • approved the minutes of the 2012 01 19 meeting of the District Executive Board,
  • acknowledged submission of the 2012 Application for a Project: Service to Others Grant,
  • received a listing of Correspondence Received and Sent by the President with comments as deemed appropriate,
  • noted the President and First Vice-President will attend a Personal Development Day on April 12th sponsored by District 9 Huron Perth,
  • advised the DEB that the District Health Representative will represent District 8 at  the provincial workshop on 2012 06 10-11,
  • noted the President and First VP will attend the President’s workshop on April first and second,
  • received a financial report as of 2012 01 15,
  • noted dates and functions associated with membership activities,
  • discussed the recent increase in prices  and what alternatives may be available for our social functions,
  • shared an update on the newsletter parameters for future publications,
  • accepted with regret the resignation of the editor of the newsletter,
  • nominated Arnold Hull as our choice for submission to the provincial Awards Committee for the Provincial Distinguished Member Award 2012,
  • recommended the National Service Dog Association for the RTO/ERO Charitable Donation recipient,
  • agreed to send a plant in appreciation for the contributions of Carolyn Robertson over the years,
  • received reports from the following committee chairs: Social, Goodwill, Book Clubs, Bridge,  and
  • reviewed the upcoming events.
